A TASMANIAN man who lost his leg in a horrific workplace accident has been denied workers' compensation after a Supreme Court ruling.

Anthony Young, of Glenorchy, will now have to apply for a disability pension after the case that highlights the risks young workers face when employed as independent contractors by labour hire firms.

Mr Young, 28, had his leg amputated on site after he was sucked into a brick crusher at the K&D Brick plant in New Town in September last year.
